If you ever need to find out something quickly either for homework or for general interest, you can access Reference Online from home at any time. You’ll find information on loads of different subjects – from encyclopaedias to music, biography, news and art.
How to do it
Click on whatever title you want to access, then enter your library card number - it's the nine-digit number without spaces on your card.

What’s on offer?
- Britannica Online– world-famous encyclopaedia, which has editions for children and students as well as adults.
- Credo Reference– gives access to 150 books from 50 different publishers, including art images and a crossword solver!
- Litfinder – specialises in world literature and covers authors from all ages and times. You can find more than 150,000 full poems, short stories, plays, etc – useful for those tricky English literature essays.
- Newsstand – contains articles from over 170 national and regional newspapers, mainly from the 1990s onwards, though local titles start at around 2000.
- Oxford English Dictionary– you need never be stuck for a word or a spelling again with the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary. Just remember to add an ‘L’ before your membership number when logging in.
